What it Means for your school

Winifred Holtby School is a vibrant Technology College, committed to raising academic standards by using the latest technologies to support teaching and learning ensuring every child achieves their full potential. We are dedicated to making sure that our teachers are equipped with the latest interactive technology to make lessons exciting and enjoyable, so that students are enthused and engaged in all areas of the curriculum. We try to match our schemes of work as closely as we can to the real world of industry so that students are given the opportunity to use computer aided manufacture (CAD CAM) to produce their own designs to professional standards. They are also able to use the exciting new sublimation printer to batch produce commercially designed T-shirts, mouse mats and coasters.

During the Easter and summer holidays the school provides Family Learning days where all students are invited to work with their families on a range of team building activities.

KS4 and Other Opportunities

In KS4, students have the opportunity to follow the full range of GCSE qualifications and can choose to follow a recognised BTEC qualification in Engineering or Construction. Clear progression routes are then met by local colleges. This has also expanded to include an accredited IMI motor Vehicle course at both level 1 and 2. WHSTC is also engaged in the 14-19 Diploma gateway delivering elements of the ICT Diploma this year and leading on the Construction diploma for next year.

Our extended school day allows students to be involved in a wide range of extra curricular and community activities representing the school in the regional and national arena. Examples include the infamous Formula 1 challenge, which involves young engineers working in teams using a computer aided design package called ‘Prodesktop’ to design formula 1 cars before testing the aerodynamics in a wind tunnel. They are then involved in manufacturing their designs before competing in a regional race event against all Hull Schools. Another new initiative sponsored by Toyota, enables students to design and build an environmentally friendly model vehicle using solar power or PIC technology with the opportunity to win a whole range of prizes including a 7 day European trip.
