About KS3

In KS3, D&T is studied for 2x 1 hour lessons each week

All students study all aspects of D&T at some point during KS3, these include:

- Food technology
- Graphic Products
- Resistant Materials
- Textiles
- Electronics

The students study this on a rotation basis, spending at least 1 term in each subject area.

In addition to the lessons we also run the F1 Competition, which allows KS3 students to take part in working as part of a team to create a small racing car which they then use to compete with other schools.

About KS4

In KS4, all students will complete a qualification in a D&T subject area. These will include:

National Diploma in Construction
National Diploma in Engineering
GCSE Graphic Products
BTec Certificate in Construction
BTec Certificate in Food
BTec Certificate in Manufacturing
GCSE Textiles

This caters for all abilities and future career prospects and also allows some students to have the possibility of completing more than one qualification within the D&T department before they leave Winifred Holtby.

In order to allow all students to achieve there full potential in D&T we also run Success Zones every Tuesday and Thursday through out the year in which students are encouraged to spend time working intensively with their subject teacher improving their subject knowledge or quality of work.
